Hometown Hero's Efforts to Expand

Katy, Texas | February 7, 2013

Whataburger’s Hometown Hero promotion — a January Facebook celebration of people who are making a difference in the communities they serve — has inspired an expansion of a worthwhile program that pairs kids with special needs with "regular" kids.

The Special Buddies program, which was started by Whataburger Hometown Hero Monica McDivitt, has been serving a select group of school children for several years. But after seeing the video that Whataburger produced for the Hometown Hero promotion about McDivitt’s efforts, the community is now eager to grow the program to hopefully include more middle schools and elementary schools in her hometown of Katy, Texas.

The program was inspired by McDivitt’s daughter, Samantha, who has been diagnosed with Chromosome 18 Q deletion.
