Sept. 30, 2013 – A one-of-a-kind burger is back by popular demand for a limited time to Whataburger fans in Texas and Oklahoma. As of 3 p.m. today, the Green Chile Double Burger is returning with its roasted flavor and Southwest kick.
The Green Chile Double Burger features two, 100-percent pure beef patties, both Monterey Jack and American cheese slices, and roasted, seasoned green chiles on a toasted bun. The green chiles give the burger an added flavor so customers can enjoy the same Whataburger taste they know and love, just kicked up a notch.
“Whether it’s avocado, grilled peppers & onions, or roasted green chiles, Whataburger is known for bringing familiar, authentic regional flavors to our menu,” said Whataburger Vice President of Marketing and Innovation Rich Scheffler. “The Green Chile Double is the perfect option for customers who are interested in branching out from the comfort of their usual orders.”
The Green Chile Double is available as a meal or a la carte, and also can be ordered as a junior version on a smaller bun.
The popular burger debuted back in 2010 to rave reviews and was made a permanent “All Time Favorite” menu item at Whataburger’s Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas restaurants due to the green chiles’ influence in southwestern cuisine.
Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers: “What a burger!” Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, 100-percent beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 750 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $1 billion annually.
