Whataburger Announces Two Leadership Promotions

SAN ANTONIO – Jan. 7, 2014 – Whataburger announced today two executive team members have been promoted to new leadership roles within the company. These individuals previously held leadership roles at Whataburger and will take on expanded duties and responsibilities in each of their respective positions.

• Pam Cox, who previously served as group director of corporate communications, has been promoted to the role of vice president of communications for Whatabrands.

• David Wilson, formerly chief information officer will now serve as senior vice president and chief of staff for Whatabrands.

Both of them have proven their exceptional capabilities over their years with Whataburger and I’m confident they’ll play an integral role in Whataburger’s next chapter of growth,” said Whataburger Chief Executive Officer Preston Atkinson.

Pam Cox joined Whataburger in 2001 and has spent the last 12 years developing and overseeing the implementation of the corporate communications strategy. She is responsible for directing all internal communications activities, special events and meetings, public relations and social media efforts for the company.  The Gregory-Portland High School alumna graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and began her public relations career with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

David Wilson, a San Antonio native, graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. He spent 14 years as Clear Channel’s chief information officer before joining Whataburger as the chief information officer in 2011. Wilson will oversee business architecture, strategic management, information technology and shared services.  He succeeds Buddy Reno in the chief of staff position who retired at the end of 2013 after more than 30 years with Whataburger.

Family-owned Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers:  “What a burger!” Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, 100 percent beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio with more than 750 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $1 billion annually.
